You weren’t there when I needed you,
your words came too late.
By the time the phone rang
I was down the stairs, I had made my escape.
The streetcars clanged their impatience,
I waited for the light to change
to finally walk out of your life.
You took what didn’t belong to you
(my heart and soul) and
refused to give it back.
I should go back and fight for it,
but if I do, I’ll miss my plane.
