Sunday Drive: 2002 Aston Martin Zagato

Posted by Joni in General

Today’s Sunday Drive is an exotic. And not a pretty one, IMHO. This car just lends credence to my assertion that all cars nowadays look like nothing more than used bars of soap. But if it’s good enough for James Bond, it ought to be good enough for me, right? In any event, here’s a peek at the 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Zagato Coupe.

The DB7 is a six-liter, 48-valve V12 pulling 435 horses. Acceleration from 50 to 70 mph in third gear takes just under 2 seconds. Stopping this beast at 100 mph in dry conditions takes just under 5 seconds. Impressive. For legislative reasons (as a modification of an existing model, it will not be put through the full federal safety and emissions certification), DB7 Zagatos will be brought into the U.S. as “personal imports”—Aston Martin will facilitate this process. Price? A cool $250,000. Even Bond might pause a moment before fishing his wallet out on this one. And get this: It looks like Aston Martin’s “gone ghetto.” This line from their website about one of the myriad options for the DB7 says it all:

Adding a flash of colour to the brakes, and as an alternative to the standard silver color, brake calipers in red, gold grey or graphite black may be specified.

Not in my ‘hood, dog.
