I’m feeling pretty magnanimous and charitable today (I know; this too shall pass!). So I’m buying virtual drinks for all my virtual friends….
To Da Goddess, a pretty but potent Mai Tai:
- 2 ounces dark rum
- 1 ounce curacao
- 1 ounce lime juice
- Splash of orgeat
- Splash of grenadine
In a shaker, combine the rum, curacao and lime juice. Splash on the orgeat (a syrup of orange and almond flavors) and finally a splash of grenadine (for color). Strain into a tall, frosted glass filled with ice.
For Jodi over at Because I Say So!, what else but an original (just like Jodi) Manhattan:
- 1.5-2 oz. blended whiskey
- 0.25-0.5 oz. sweet vermouth
- dash Angostura bitters
Stir with ice in shaker and strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.
To Acidman, you’ll just have to forego your usual White Zin and have a Monkey Gland, for its restorative properties. In days of old, absinthe was used, but in these tamer times, anise is substituted. Throw your contraption away. Here’s all you need!
- 1 ounce gin
- 1 ounce orange juice
- dash of anise
- dash of grenadine
Combine in a shaker and serve in a chilled glass.
For Quinn, the powerful Zombie. Conservative establishments usually had a rule in place: One to a customer. They’re just that powerful. So if you want to be carried out, toes dragging….
- 1 once dark rum
- 1 ounce Jamaican rum
- 1 ounce light rum
- 1 pineapple juice
- 1 ounce papaya juice
- 1 ounce lime juice
- a float of 151-proof rum

Combine the dark, light and Jamaican rums with the fruit juices in a shaker. Strain into a glass. Float some 151-proof rum on top, over the back of a spoon. Sprinkle a dash of powdered sugar on top and add a cherry garnish.
To SugarMama, here’s something to cure your sweet tooth, fresh from the sugar plantations of Jamaica … a nice tall glass of Planter’s Punch:
- 1 ounces white rum
- 1 ounce lemon juice
- dash of orange juice
Combine ingredients in shaker with cracked ice. Strain into a frosted wine glass.
For Clarablog, the sedate, yet elegant Rusty Nail:
The Rusty Nail
- 1 ounce blended scotch
- 1 ounce Drambuie
Combine ingredients stirred with cracked ice. Serve in a pre-chilled tumbler, over rocks.
And for my fellow Texan, The Fat Guy, how about a nice cold Westside Fat Mama? If you are from San Antonio, like I am, then you’d immediately know I’m talking about a quart bottle of this:
As for myself, I’ll just have my usual:
